Hi, I go to a Xavier University which is a small private college in Cincinnati, OH. I live at home with my parents and commute every day. Our undergraduate population is around four thousand people. As classes started, we had a few swine (H1N1) flu cases break out, and since then we have had several more. Our health center has stopped testing for swine flu and now "approximately 110 probable cases of novel H1N1 have been identified."

Now my question or concern is this.. My father was diagnosed with stage four cancer in his liver and other parts of his body. He just received his 8th chemo treatment this week and next week they are taking him in again for another cat scan to see if the treatment is working at all.

Now being exposed to the Xavier community daily, I'm scare that I may be a carrier or something like that. I know this being a "novel" flu, I would have to be exposed to it before to be a carrier, I suppose I'm also worried about just having it. They say that you are contagious prior to you actually having the symptoms of the H1N1 flu and I'm just afraid of bringing something home and getting him sick.

My question then I suppose is the degree of concern I should exhort with my father and being home?

Should I try and find another means of housing til things settle down more?

I think a fair matter of concern since although the flu seems mild in most cases, if someone is immunologically compromised things could become serious. Talk to the medical team and ask their advice. Low contact seems sensible.

Here the new vaccine will be issued to such people before the general population.

i suggest that you try to following all procedures from getting the H1N! virus so as not to bring home, which may include washing your hands frequently, and cover your mouth with a mask at home, if not at the university.
