Hello, a few months ago a small brown mark on my right ankle I've had for years started to change, it got a little red mark in the centre and raised a little.

Now the centre is still raised but there is a area of brown skin around the original mark, I have attached a photo, however it is poor quality, in good lighting the dark patch is much darker.

It isnt from anything which has rubbed on my foot, it gets itchy and feels warm to touch, just got me a little worried when I noticed the size it had become.

Any help would be great,

Thanks in advance

I would have it checked it's always safe than sorry. It doesn't matter what age you are either, because I got my melanoma at 16. The photo is bad but it really doesn't matter, I feel from my experience appearance is a factor but not as big as the changing factor. It could be acne but it might not be. Itching can be a symptom of melanoma. I was fooled into thinking my 'nodular melanoma' was acne or a new mole because it was perfectly symmetrical and grew quite fast over a matter of weeks. Do not let your doctors fool you as I was, melanoma usually has irregular borders but it can be symmetrical as well. I usually wait 2 weeks to see if there is an improvement, if there isn't I dart to my dermatologist. It's always better to get it checked out just in case. Here's some info on skin cancers:

I echo what Jim_Hall said, go see your doctor. I have not seen your picture and will not because I am not qualified to diagnose any form of cancer. My standard answer is always: GO SEE YOUR DOCTOR ASAP! Hopefully, it is nothing. However, if it is cancer, the earlier they remove it the chance that it will spread decreases. Keep us informed and good luck.

Thanks for the replies. I had thought about it being some kind of acne or something at first, however I never suffered from anything like that during my teenage years, I've made an appointment for the doctors, next Thursday, so I'll let you know how that goes.

Thanks again.
