My sister in law has a rectal tumor (cancerous) the size of a baseball. She has NOT had a bowel movement for 3 MONTHS. She has had a barium enema NOTHING came out. She has taken all there meds for cleaning out the colon.. NOTHING comes OUT... NOTHING. She has just finished her 6wks of chemo and radiation, still NOTHING comes out. Now they are letting her wait for 4 wks and surgery is the next step. What is happening to all this waste and how can they possibly do surgery when she is so full? They said the chemo and the radiation would shrink the tumor but apparently NOT or wouldnt she be able to have a bowel movement?> She doesnt think the doctors believe her when she tells them that she has had NOTHING come out of her for so long. They pass her off and tell her to take a laxative. The cramps and pain are sometimes almost to much for her to stand. ANY ANSWERS>?

Hello

If she is eating she should have BMs with the tumor shrinking. Now, if she is not eating and on parenteral nutrition she might not have BMs during this period. In any case they will have to prep her bowel prior to surgery, if she is retaining so much I think the best would be to get an appointment to figure this out.
