I feel a bit shameful and reluctant posting on forums which I'm sure have much more serious and important uses- but this has been haunting me and if *any* insight can be given I would be grateful.

About 5 months ago I was feeling around my neck whilst sitting down and noticed a lump (not too large, in fact, it can only be adequately felt if I turn my head completely to the right, and it is not visible), which after much searching on the internet I identified as a lymph node (left occipital lymph node I believe) right beneath my hairline, where the skull seems to end. Of course, a search for possible causes of a swollen lymph node, Hodgkins and Non-Hodgkins lymphoma were listed.

I talked talked to my parents about maybe seeing a doctor just to make sure its nothing wrong, and they agreed but perhaps just wait to see if it went down after a week or two. Sure enough, after about a week or more it went down in size (though not away completely). It swells up for a week or so, then down, then repeat. I've also noticed what I believe to be swollen lymph nodes, though these are much smaller and more visible, about 4 others in total (my right occipital lymph node swelled up for a while and now seems to be gone).

All in all, here are my 'symptoms':

I have five currently swollen lymph nodes on my head and neck that I have identified- one on the left under hairline, two on the bottom right of my neck, one on the bottom left of my neck, and one on my left jaw. Four of them are truly quite small, and are very movable, most of them I discovered a few days ago. The other one, which is the lymph node I found underneath my hairline, has gone up and down throughout five months, and is squishable, though a little bit more firm and I have trouble telling whether or not it's very moveable since all I can really do to it is squish it. I don't have any sweats or itches or anything of the sort, I am 16 years old and overweight though I have lost a considerable portion of my weight (dont worry, not due to loss of appetite, dieting many months ago and of course exercise). I doubt this is related, but I also recently developed what I assume to be meridian geography tongue- where the middle of my tongue has slightly swelled, engulfing the small hairs on my tongue and making the middle of my tongue appear smooth and bald. I should also mention that I have an erupted, bottom left wisdom tooth- which I know if infected (though it doesnt seem to be) can in some cases cause swelling of lymph nodes. I dont have any symptoms or signs of illness otherwise, I know no one can make a diagnosis over the internet, but I just wanted to know if anything I've described sounds particularly lymphoma related- I'm trying to figure out whether I should relax and keep an eye out, or panic my way on to serious examination.

Truly, truly, thank you if you took the time to read this and respond. You're helping me solve months of concern and indecision.

Thank you dearly,
T.

I recently graduated as a paramedic and I think that one of my preceptors favorite sentences applies here. "If you think about doing something, if it even crosses you're mind, then you shouldn't be thinking about it anymore. You should be doing it." There is no need to put it off and hope it goes away for fear that you'll feel embarassed if it turns out to be nothing. Cancer as a rule usually has a better prognosis if it is detected early. Either way, you'll know, there will be no more guessing or wondering, and you can move forward with your life no matter what path it takes you down.

I wish you the best of luck.

before i found out that i had hodgkins disease...i felt several lumps on the left side of my neck. one was very small...but the others were big. i delayed going to the doctor for a long time.....i feel like it was a mistake. if you have any feelings that you may have something, its definetly best to go to the doctor and have it looked at. i know it can be scary, but it can also get worse if you dont have it checked out. i wish you the best, if you have any questions feel free to ask me, i wish i had people to talk to when i first found out, shit i wish i had people to talk to through my whole treatments.
