Hi,
I was diagnosed with hodgkins in in March and im starting chemo very soon i go back on wednesday to get a pick line put in and then i start on tuesday. im very worried about all the side effects, i know hodgkins is very curable but im mostly worried about side effects and my future. How possile is it to get a reccurence? I know it all depends on each person but has anyone here ever has hodgkins not non-hodgkins that had complications, health problems or more cancer from this down the road? i guess im just being too worried and should only worry about things day by day. My other question was i hate needles veryyy much and its hard for doctors to find my veins because their "deep and rolly" so they told me im going to get a pick line put in which will make it easier. I heard different things about pick lines some say its better to have it because you dont have to get picked each time you go but others say it hurts getting put in and its a pain to have so i was just wondering if any of you guys have had a pickline and does it hurt getting put in or is it a pain do have in your arm all the time?
Thank you i would apprecaite any advice

Just going through posts and noticed that you needed for someone to answer your post. I don't have any answers for you but this will put your post up a little higher for people to read.

Hi Vanessa,

I'm afraid I'm another one of those that can not give you any specific answers (I'm NHD) but can point out that during both my periods of chemo it seemed that about half of my fellow patients did have a pick line. Also, I can state with some certainly, it they ever miss your vein while inserting manually and hit one of your bones, you'll wish you did have a pick line.

As to your questions about your future health .... they're all good and I suject that you write them all down and take them to your doctor the next time you see him/her and ask them one at a time. Write down the answers also. That was what I had to do because I found out that my memory sometimes plays tricks on me.

All in all Venessa, I think you'll find that the anticipation of your upcoming sessions will be worse than the actual experience. I send you strength, love, and just a tad of luck.

Thank you guys for trying to help and the support. ive already started chemo i go for my third session next week, and yes i found it is hard at times Sad . The worst party is i have to be isolated for 2 weeks and me being so young its hard because i can never just sit still and not go somewhere so thats no fun. I also lost all my hair a few days ago, i wasnt suspecting to loose it so fast. it was really hard i knew there was the chance but once it happens it hits you pretty hard. I know its just hair and it will grow back but i just feel gross when i go out in public becasue people stare sometimes its okay right now becasue i cant go anywhere anyway but.. i was thinking of getting a wig but i dont know. does anyone have any suggestions for hair replacements i was thinking of maybe making a bandana or something. I also have another question has anyone had pains like from chemo becasue i dont know if this would have anything to do with it or not if i just hurt myself some how because ive been having lower back pains and it hurts at night time when im trying to sleep. My feet have also been just starting to hurt a few days ago when i walk its a weird pain and i keep kinda twisting my ankle like im getting really weak and have been having muscle pains.
Thank you Lana and Orange Agent for trying to help out its dissapointing when you look and no one replies.

Hi Vanessa,

It's good to hear that the healing has began, and yes ..... those of us who have been thru it know that this is no walk in the park.

I think I experienced all those symptoms you described, sometimes without realizing it. I remember my surprise when I discovered I was descending steps one foot at a time, then go to the next step. Also muscle cramps, swollen toes, etc.

As for the loss of hair, you have several alternatives. My favorite would be for you to do nothing about it except give passers-by your most brillant ear to ear smile. If anyone asks state that it's for the new film that your in. If that doesn't work for you by all means try the bandana, wig or whatever.

As far as your friends I suspect that is for your protection (because of your immune system). Build up a cellular support system until you are cleared back for eyeball to eyeball contacts.

You go girl!
