unsure of my wife's new developments

Well, since I have talked to you all, my wife has started acting very different. She sleeps about 18 - 20 hours a day. She is severly depressed. they are trying anti depressants on her and so far it hasnt worked. She now this week after chemo yesterday is in a deep sleep. Used to she would wake up when you came in the room and made some noise. Now she is in a deep sleep and you have to almost shake her to get her to open her eyes all the way. I am really worried about this condition. She seems to be slipping away.

Can anyone help me here. Have you sween this before. What is in store for us? I do appreciate you all and look forward to hearing from you.

Is she on any other major medication, such for instance as pain-killers? The reason I ask is because in my case the pain-killer (Oxycontin) caused severe drowsyness, among other symptoms.

Hey Mark, I'm really out of my league here, but have they done regular blood work? We had a big problem with Sam's potassium being way out of line, when we addressed that, things got better- just a thought. Anyway, I hope you are getting along as best you can. Peace, Reenie

Well, come to find out she was a little over medicated. We have adjusted that adnd things are a little better. They do blood work on her every two weeks prior to chemo. The nurse told me friday that her blood work looks okay. I guess things are going okay. It is just so much unknown. This isall so different and at her expense. She is such a strong person. If I could deal with this type of illness with half the grace she does I would be tickled. She is still real tired but they gave her an anti depressant and it seems to be working good.

Thanks for the replies. It always helps to hear from all of you wonderful people. Any new folks here that are reading this, you have made yourself part of a great group of people. Although we do not know one another, we all still have in common one of the most earth shattering situations that one could expect to experience in life. But yet it seems that everyone will take their time to reply.

well, i am finally getting time to get back to this forum. We have been real busy and I do thank you for your replies. We did look at the meds and figured she was way to medicated. Then in the past week we have had newer developments.

My wife could not do chemo yesterday. They thought she had pneumonia. She has very little air flow in her left lung. After a chect xray it showed no pneumonia. They are now afraid the cancer has spread to her lung. Also, she shakes real bad and her ankles are swollen. They are doing a cat scan of her chest tomorrow and they are doing several cat scans of her abdomen and spine areas. they also think that the tumor could have spread to her spinal areas. She is in pretty good spirits but depression still has its presence. She said she feels like she will not make it much longer. She is so tired. We had our daughter drive down from St Louis yesterday so we had all six of our children here at home with us last night. We had a wonderful time.

I have been keeping your wife and your family in my prayers. Thank you for the update.

In my mom's case (she passed away on 1/29/07), her cancer had already spread to her lungs and liver upon diagnosis in November. I pray that God gives all of you the strength during this extremely difficult time.

From what I have been through myself & have learned since Dec 15, 2006. By the time pancreatic cancer has been diagnosed it has already spread to places so quickly it's unbelievable. This is why Pancreatic cancer is called the "silent killer". What an awful thing this is, but also a blessing in the fact if a loved one has it they will not suffer long. I'm so sorry Mark that you are faced with this. My prayers are with you & your family.

Well, we went to the doctor today and he has now pulled my wife off of all her medicine including the chemo9gemzar). She is really unresponsive and is just not with it. She sleeps around 20 hours per day. The doctor told us that she is developing parkinson's like symptoms. He is afraid it is due to some of the medicine and doesnt know which one. He pulled her off of everything and said if she is to recover from it we should see better things by the weekend. We are 7 months into this and each day seems to be a learning experience. He has put her on demerol for pain as needed along with Percoset. Hope this works. Does anyone have any knowledge on this and could you share with me your thoughts.

Hi,
I am new to this forum, but I stumbled on it in my quest for information on pancreatic cancer. My very good friend's husband was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer stage 4, a few days before christmas. Its been soooo devistating. He has lost sooo much weight and is going through soooo much. It is so difficult to not be able to do much for him. His latest symptoms are swelling in the feet and of course it is a constant battle with Nausea and vomiting. He's on oral chemo daily and IV chemo every 2 weeks. Has anyone heard of any new treatments? Cutting edge? There just has to be something.
