My sister has recently been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She is only 56 years old.
Prior to the diagnosis she was not able to hold any food down and has lost nearly 30 pounds in the last 8 weeks.
The treatment suggested by the doctor starts with radiation, however my sister is reluctant. Should she wait until she gains some weight? I feel like she is giving up. Where should I refer her for help?

I would not wait for the radiation treatment. When I had it last year, it was painless, and there were few side effects. You do not want the cancer to progress, and radiation is one way they use to retard its growth, and sometimes get it to die off.

Waiting for treatement allows the cnacer to grow unchecked, and this is what you really want to avoid.

Cheers!

Marty

Hi,
Sorry about your sister.
But according to her illness, just waiting is a really bad decision.
And Marty is right ,for the cancer will progress even faster than before without any treatment.

Of course it is true that radiotherapy may do some harm to the patient because of the side effects. And I also understand why your sister is reluctant about this kind of therapy. Maybe she is a little too weak to do Rad. But you may also try some other medicine which could provide high-energy nutrition to be used in combination with radiotherapy. Thus your sister could get nutrition at the same time of the treatment. You can do it at the same time.

You could consult the doctor or do some searches from Internet through google for some anticancer drug (not only western medicine, but also some alternative treatment)with the function mentioned above to be combined with radiotherapy.
