Last summer my father was diagnosed with brain cancer. He underwent surgery to remove it and found out that the tumor was GBM. We were originally given 9-12 months as a survival rate. It has been 10 months since the surgery and he is doing pretty well. He has had many trials in his young life (56) but has managed to keep hope. I don't know how he copes. My mother handles this with such grace as well. When I look at my life I am very grateful for what I have at the present. I pray for more time with my father and for that time to be free of pain for him. I think back to last summer and remember how happy my family was: my sons 1st birthday, my parents planning for retirement, and many plans for the future. You never expect for things to change. He has averaged about 1 grateful a month for the last 3 months (this is 3 of 5 since diagnosis). The last 2 MRI's show no new growth and shrinkage where the cavity is. I am searching for survivor stories. I know that the prognosis is real, but the recent MRI's give me hope.

Dear Jenifer,

What to say to you about a prognosis? My husband's prognosis was "about 5 months, maybe a year if you are lucky". He had stage IV gastric cancer. Today nearly 22 months later he is very well with no sign of the cancer. Your Dad is doing very well and, obviously, he has strong support from your Mum and you. I don't know very much about brain cancers but I, too, would be very hopeful after seeing the results of the MRIs. Cancers do disappear. Lance Armstrong had testicular, lung, and brain cancers and they all disappeared and he went on to win the Tour de France again and again. Stay hopeful and cheerful and loving.

Kindest regards,

Val

Hi Jenifer,

My husband was diagnosed with a non-melignant BT in Dec of 04. He has an ependymoma. He has had a 4+ cm recur twice. It was partially removed in Jan '05. It grew back 100+% and was removed completely in Jan '06.

At first they told us it was a VERY malignant BT and diagnosed it as GMF. I was so thrilled that it was not malignant, yet because it is located in the brain and is sure to come back, it is diagnosed as cancer.

I am amazed at how well my husband is doing. I hope your father is doing well today. I would love to hear how he is. I hope you get this so that we can correspond.

God bless you and your family,
joy
