PSA went from 48 to 54 in 2 weeks in my dad What is this ?

Hi

My dad is 54 and went for a routine blood check. His PSA level came back at 48. With-in 2 weeks it has risen to 54 and the specialist has referred him for a biopsy after his digital exam which also isn't looking good.

Does anyone know what this might mean?

Hi alanaos,

Have they done any type of scans on your father yet or are they leaving that to the specialist to order?

Of course, the primary concern is prostate cancer but there are a few other things that can cause an elevated PSA.

What type of biopsy will they do? The larger the sample the more confident you can be with the results.

Hi

They haven't done any scans yet. They are sending him for the regular biopsy but instead of waiting he is going to go to BUPA today and get some tests done. He has had some of the other symptoms associated with prostate problems (start stop weeing for one).

Fingers crossed it's something less sinister than cancer.
