Hi
I have quite a big scar on my chin and neck and I'm quite concerened about about recent changes and goings on relating to this scar.

The reason I am posting on here (hoping it is appropriate) is that the scar is the result of a large lump I had on my chin as a baby. I have very little knowledge of the medical reasons behind the lump except vaguely remember my GP as referring to it once as some form of Nevus.

I had the lump removed when I was only a few months old as the doctor had worries that it may become cancerous at some point. Again my knowledge is quite vague.

Through out my childhood I had several operations to improve the look of this scar. The result usually made it worse. Laser treatment around 13 years ago reduced the redness of part of it but since then nothing has been done. I consider it a part of my face and have never had and problems with it.

However in the last couple of months the whole chin area has started to sporadically feel numb. It's a similar sensation to when you have had an injection at the dentists and the anaesthetic is starting to wear off.

On several occasions the whole chin area has swollen very suddenly and this has lasted a couple of hours before the swelling suddenly goes down and all goes back to normal.

I also am starting to get a regular pulsing, tingeling sensation on the chin part of the scar, which is where the original lump was.

i have had the scar now for over 35 years and haven't had an op on it since I was about 14. It normally doesn't feel any different to any other part of my face.

Does this sound like anything to worry about? After 35 years passing since the removal of the lump, which though not cancerous, caused enough concern that it was operated on and removed, can there be any connection between the original lump and what I am experiencing now?

I can't believe that a scar that is so old should suddenly start causing discomfort. I don't know why I haven't simply gone to my GP. Part of me thinks she will simply dismiss it as nothing and I'll feel daft for worrying and part of me is worried I should have had it checked out earlier!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the long post!
