Im a 22 year old Male, fairly fit and healthy and have never had any Bowel problems in the past until recently.

About 1 month ago I really felt like I needed to go to the Bathroom, went and nothing came through apart from a little blood on the tissue. Eventually (a day or two later) I went to the bathroom as normal and never thought any more of it.

I have since had severe pains on my left lower side and about 3 weeks ago had an awful lot of blood when going to the toilet. I have not noticed any since then but the pains still happen now and again and I always feel like i need to go to the toilet when there is nothing there.

I have consulted my Doctor and he diagnosed it is IBS but I feel that it could be something more serious.

Can anyone offer any advice??

ibs is a diagnosis of exclusion only....i dont see your md excluding anything...he just assumed due to your age! if u want to put your mind at ease...then get a colonoscopy

DG.

I had similar symptoms. I was also told it was IBS and hemmorroids. I pushed for a colonoscopy, just to get it out of the way.
that was how I found out I have rectal cancer.
I do not want to scare you, but until you get a complete exam, you really won't know. Not knowing is worse than knowing and doing something about it.
Get checked out! May God grace you with a clean report!

Go back and get a colonoscopy! I had a doc say the same thing to me at 25 and I didn't find out I had cancer until 3 years later. Early detection = easy solution. I'd have done anything to go back in time. Oh well, at least I am alive. Your doctor needs to do some research. It's a shame they irresponsibly take people's lives into their hands like that.

Did you get a colonscopy? I hope so. Remember that bowel cancer is 90% curable if it's got early enough. Also only 20% of people end up with a permanent colostomy/ileostomy after they've had part of their colon removed. I think a lot of people put off seeking investigations or are easily satisfied by what doctors say because they fear having to have a colostomy so much. I know that was true in my case. I just didn't know how uncommon it is now to have to have a permanent colostomy.
