Hello all,
My husband has been feeling badly lately, and as I searched the net for his symptoms, imagine my surprise when I found a lot of them in sites about brain tumors. Can you please tell me if you think I'm crazy or if I should get him to a neurologist?

Here are his symptoms--most are about two months now, but the first few are just the last two weeks or so:
-Anger and frustration at even trivial things
-Dizziness, has to sit with head in one position and not move eyes
-Ringing very loud in one ear, softer in the other
-Nausea (but no vomiting)
(All of these except anger evaluated at walk-in clinic as sinus infection, has been on antibiotics for a week with no change though)
-Frequent headaches
-Lack of energy/tiredness
-Neck and upper back pain
-Trouble sleeping

Also, we have a cat who sometimes pees in the house. Sometimes he will go crazy yelling that it smells terrible when I can't smell anything (and I *can* smell cat pee, believe me). I read something about smelling bad smells no one else can smell, which scared me.

I also work in the medical field (veterinary) and I hate it when people come in having "diagnosed" their pets' problems from misinformation on the internet, so I'm leery of going to a doctor and telling him that we want an MRI based on web info.

What do you think? I am feeling very worried. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi Eden,

I'm sorry you are going through a hard time with your hubby. I can't say either way if it's a tumour, but if it's being going on for 2months now then I think you definetely need to investigate further.

I think you should ask your doctor for an MRI / CAT Scan. So what if everything turns out to be OK and you were afterall being "paranoid"?!!...this is your husband & your life!! Better safe than sorry. You have every right to be concerned and to hopefully have someone dispel them.

Don't take no for an answer!! Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Cheers
Sam

Hi there!

I definately think you should investigate further. I am not a Dr. or even in the field. My knowledge comes only from the internet and my experience from a good friend who has a Grade III Oligodendroglioma. It is possible that some of his symptoms that you are discribing are mild seizures (hearing, vision etc) and because they are fairly subtle they are hard to diagnose. This seems to be one of the big problems with brain tumors is that sometimes they go undiagnosed for so long as you are tested for everything but a brain tumor. I do think you should insist on a CATSCAN..sometimes through your doctor this can take a long time. The other option is to get your husband into the ER spelling out the symptoms...this should get you a CATSCAN right away...this is what my friend did....and unfortunately in his case he did have a brain tumor...but on the upside had he waited for an appointment through his Dr. he would have only had one last week or so......he went to the ER at the end of Jul....had two surgeries within a few weeks and just completed his 3rd round of chemo a week or so ago.........so time is definately important!

Good luck and let us know how things go.

M
