I have a niece that is going through Cemo and of course needs to spend a lot of time in the hospital. Her mother of course wants to be there, and ends up sleeping in a chair in the room each night. I am sure a lot of folks reading this have done the same. Any sugestions on making those nights easier? (She is too worried about her daughter to even think about what could make the nights easier on herself, so I am trying to help out.)

Ahh yes. I remember them well… long, mostly sleepless nights I the hospital room with my mother and father. I don’t know what could make those times any easier. I know that eventually, I did need to come home to do various things (like take a bath Very Happy). It was good to have others come to stay with them while I went home or just out of the hospital for a while. You might volunteer to stay with them for a while so that the mother can go out for a little while.

Thanks Brianman,

My wife is there this week doing just that. Howevr, even though my wife is Erika's god mother and a pediatrician, her mom wants to be the one to spend the night. I don't think I can change that. Just trying to find a way to make the nights a little easier.

When I had the Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant at UCSF, my mom stayed with me pretty much every day/night. She bought a jr. twin size studio chair to sleep on. It's soft, slightly confortable but its better than sleeping in a chair!
