I've never done anything like this before. My wife and I have always kept everything low key. I got on this forum and reading other stories made we want to post. 3 years my wife was diagnosed with NHL while she was pregnant with our first son. She was 22 at the time which is very rare for NHL. We were first told to abort the baby, but after talking with specialists we were reassured the baby would be fine with the chemo treatments. If it would have been in the first trimester things would have been different but he was barely into the second. She spent a total of 2 weeks in the hospital, and had 6 sessions of chemo. Right after her last session she went into labor. 8 weeks early. They were able to stop the birth until 6 weeks early and he was born. Yes he was a preemie. 4 lbs. 15 oz. He spent a month in the NICU but he is almost 3 years old now and doing wonderfully! She was declared cancer free shortly there after. The main reason I am posting now, and coming to this forum is because her cancer has returned and she is preparing for a bone marrow transplant.

If there is anyone who has gone through a transplant from a donor there words would be greatly appreciated. We are very scared and don't know what to expect. Well maybe I should rephrase that. I am very scared! She has never shown one bit of fear. To put it into perspective, her parents told her she had cancer the first time before I went into her hospital room, and when I entered right after they had told her she had a smile on her face. I could never be so strong.

Thank you all for your strength!

awjensen467,
You're perfectly normal to be very, very scared. It means you're human. Transplant is used for NHL, especially relapse. I'm not sure where you are, but it's always worth considering a 2nd opinion. Major cancer centers include MD Anderson and Memorial Sloan Kettering. Another good lymphoma center is Stanford University and they have an experienced transplant team. I have experience training there.

I'm pregnant now with a swollen node, did your wife undergo general anesthesia? What did they do to monitor the baby?

Everything with the pregnancy was done normally. The only difference was they did more ultrasounds than normal. As far as her cancer, they weren't able to do any scans like CT, PETCT. They did a biopsy of a lymph node in her neck and that's how they determined it.

If you have any more questions please feel free to post again. I'm sorry it took me this long to reply. We've been going through the bone marrow transplant. She was just admitted last week.

Good luck with everything, and I hope it all goes well. You will be in my prayers.

P.S. If you would like to talk by phone or email we can set that up. Let me know
