|
|
Kathleen has been invited to join a clinical trial here in Charlotte for a drug called sunitinib malate (Sutent) that has fairly effective in treating MRRC and GIST. The listed side effects sound a bit worse than the Gemzar/Tarceva she has tolerated over the past year. If anyone is on it, knows someone who is, or would like to offer comment, we would be glad to listen.
Thanks for being out there for us!

kmeshelper,
Sutent has a range of side effects and most of them are mild. I wouldn't necessarily say they are worse. Remember, everyone responds differently to each treatment. So this could be just as well tolerated or she may have more side effects. If Gem and Tarceva aren't working for her, then consider a clinical trial. Most individuals on sutent report a rash, diarrhea, and fatigue with varying degrees. For a clinical trial, they are required to list everything, thus it may seem worse than it actually is for patients. Good luck. _________________ RLee, MD

Dear RLee,
THANK YOU for your input. Kathleen cannot possibly start the protocol before 5/24. Unfortunately, she is suddenly experiencing a range of very sketchy symptoms which may or may not be precursors of a final slide. Hopefully we'll get them under control and be able to contribute to a better outcome for all with PC. _________________ stage 4 unresectible pancreatic diagnosed

Hi Sandy,
I just read an update on your sister-in-law on another thread. I just want to express how sorry I am to hear that she has declined so much. I am glad that she became alert enough to express her wishes and to tell you all that she is ready to just sleep. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. _________________ Jim
