Hi everyone,
I hope I am in the correct forum, I went to my gyn for abn pap, had colposcopy and biopsy, pap showed cin3,biopsy showed cin1, she tried to do endometrial biopsy but couldn't get it to go through, now she will do sonogram on 5-14, I am having heavy bleeding w/ low back pain, for the last year only bleeding is getting worse,
How effective is the sonogram for detecting endometrial abnormalities? I am scheduled for a total hysterectomy on 5-21, thank you for any help you can offer.
Angie

NANA2LANDON,
Not sure how to answer specifically about your question, but biopsies and U/S are standard tools to diagnose endometrial cancer. Keep working with your medical team. Good luck and keep us posted.

Hi Angie:

My OBGYN had me go through two sonograms, which revealed multiple fibroids and cysts. They ruled out cancer based on these tests, BUT I had stage III-C endometrial cancer. I think the biopsy is needed, dont just rely on the sonograms. Of course, this may depend on a doctor's interpretation. My doctor should had ordered a biopsy based on the sonograms instead of assuming it was not cancer. Since you are scheduled for a hysterectomy, they will no doubt do a pathology report on what they take out. It was through a hysterectomy I was diagnosed, as a large tumor was found during the surgery. Please keep us posted on how everything turns out.

By the way, my twin sister had abnormaities, which turned out to be endometriosis, and not cancer, so these things may not necessarily indicative of cancer. I just feel its prudent to rule cancer out first. Take care,

Rhonda
