Hi.

3 years ago my mother was diagnosed with Leiomyosarcoma. Lesions in her lungs, surrounded her Kidney. Kidney was removed and most tumors removed from both lungs via surgery. Sloan Kattering is a great place.... in ways.

The cancer, isnt better. It spread to her liver, and bigger in the lungs and now in the spine.

Here is the newest and biggest problem. She fell and fractured her hip.
Pain management. Either she is in pain, or she gets enough Fenthonal to knock her out. Its not fun.... being there while she sleeps pretty much all day long. But its better than seeing her suffer. And its not just the pain. When she moves it hurts, but it snowballs into all the stress she is feeling. Worrying about me, the fact she can no longer work, no longer be the strong help anyone and everyone person she was.

Tomorrow she is going to Calvery. A hospice in the Bronx. Taking care of her here is impossible. Biggest reason is steps. She can barely get out of bed to use the bathroom.

I dont know if anyone here can help me. I hope Calvary can help both of us. And i know some psychotherapy wont be a bad idea, for all of us.

I am so sorry your mother is in such pain, Scott. My father also feel and fractured his hip. That was who we found out that he had leukemia... blood test at that time should platelet counts well under 20,000 at that time. He too was in great pain for a long time. He actually never was able to walk without a walker again. My father spent time in and out or the hospital, nursing home, and home for 2 years before he finally died in September, 2006. So, I know a little about what you are going through with your mother.

Placing my father in a nursing home was his decision so I do not feel any guilt about that. However, I also did not just dump him and forget him. I visited him every day and phoned at least one other time. The nursing home staff gave excellent care to my father and that took a lot of pressure off of me too. I did take him some of his favorite foods and made sure that his needs were attended to.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your mother.
