As I understand it, my uncle has the following diagnosis:
- Stage 4 pancreatic cancer (4 cm in body area) with multiple metastisis to the liver
- Diagnosed 4 days ago. Current symptoms are slight general weakness, moderate abdominal pain, low fever. He's 56 years old and otherwise in good health.
- Normal blood tests, CA19-9 is 11.2

The doctors have said it is inoperable and recommend immediate chemo with Gemcitabine, Erlotinib, and Tarceva.

My understanding is inoperable PC = certain death, probably soon.

But, is there any hope? Has anyone with this diagnosis been successfully saved by surgery or other means? Thank you.

Hi Philip, I am sure those who know more about pancreatic cancer can answer your central concern better than I can. I am so sorry about your uncle's diagnosis. I know this will sound rather obvious and maybe even "preachy;" however, as every member of this forum knows, no one knows with absolute certainty how long they have to live... not your uncle, not you, not me. My suggestion is to try to bring as much quality into your uncle's life while you still can. You have probably heard about an organization called "The Dream Factory?" Try to become your uncle's dream factory.

I will keep you and your uncle in my thoughts and prayers. Keep us informed.
