hi i'm 20 years old and i found a lump in my breast. i check my breasts regularly and i can only feel it while laying down with my left arm raised and it hurts a bit when i touch it. i know it could be nothing and i'm going to the doctor to get it checked out. i was just wondering if it's common to get lumps in your breasts like before your periods maybe? and if so, how long do they stay there if they're not cancerous?

Good for you for doing your self breast exams and getting check out. That will give you peace of mind. It would be unusual for a 20 year old to have BC, BUT, it can and has happened.

When you go to your GYN for your annual pap/pelvic and breast exam, they have you lay down with your arms down, then your arms up just like with a SBE because lumps may not be felt in each direction. It's been over 5 years since I had a period (chemo put me into early menopause), but it seems like the lumps went away towards the end of my period or right after. Hopefully someone else can tell you their experience since it's been so long that I may not be remembering correctly.
