For about 2-3 weeks now my father has a serious pain in the back part of his right leg, it hurts so much he can't sleep at night and has lost a tremendous amount of weight. He went to take an MRI for the leg and the doctor said he found a something small in his lungs(my father smokes). My father told me the leg is the thing that was causing the pain not really his lungs. Anyone have any idea? could he have bone cancer? If so is the prognosis on that ever any good?

obs, I am very sorry that your father is having health problems. Right now all that anyone can say is that he has something in one of his lungs and pain in one of his legs. Apparently, the MRI did not reveal any abnormality in his legs. If indeed your fears are correct and he does have lung cancer, bones are a location to which lung cancer spread. However, for now, that is not what is most important. Right now the most important thing is to diagnose this lump and diagnose the cause of the leg pain. I don't think anyone can or even should attempt a prognosis at this point. Hope for the best but prepare for the worst is a common expression that truly applies to you and your father. Your post is a good start at the last half of that phrase. I will keep you and your father in my thoughts and prayers. Please, keep us informed as he reaches some answers.
