My question...... ? What will happen with this so-called "stable disease" now that no more chemo is being administered?? Will it progress at lightning speed as it did prior to treatment in March?? What should I be prepared for??

Someone please advise.. My wife was d-nosed in Dec 2006 w/stage ivB PC cancer. Mets in PC, lung, liver retropertoneal lymph nodes, bladder, etc. Dr. said 3-6 months.. however, we started gemcitabine in March, 2007 and she is still hanging on.
ca19-9 went from 24,000 to 600 by sept. 2007. The ca19-9 is now hanging between 600-700 basically "stable"

A CT scan performed 1- week ago reveals that the disease is only "stable". basically no change in the tumors after 3 awful cycles of chemo.
The Dr. states that the tumors in liver are too numerous to count, the largest at about 2cm.
She is refusing to take any more chemo, or even discuss the Dr. or the disease. Her Dr. and med staf are very tight-lipped and barely speak to me.. They will not discuss prognosis with me, only with her.. and she will not talk to them.

My question...... ? What will happen with this so-called "stable disease" now that no more chemo is being administered?? Will it progress at lightning speed as it did prior to treatment in March?? What should I be prepared for?? She doesn't look well. Diarrhea, thrombosis in left leg. Tooth pain, pain in rght buttock, intermittent abdominal pain, etc.

Someone please advise as to prognosis now that chemo is halted.

Thanks in advance (this is my first vivit to the site)

PCTX --

I am so sorry about your wife. PC is the worst...

I can’t give you much information because I am new to this myself. My husband like your wife is 47 and we stopped chemo 3 weeks ago. Kurt’s stint had to be replaced on 9/28 and the original stint could not be removed due to the advancement of the PC. The Chemo had no affect on his cancer, so I know he made the correct decision there.

All I can say is that in my situation there are good days and bad days, and I often ask myself how long will he have to suffer when the bad days roll around…. No one knows, not me, not him, not the doctors or even hospice … Only the Good Lord knows how long my wonderful husband will be with me and our son…

I am praying for you and your wife.
