I am 10 weeks postop & still have a lot of incontinence. I have a constant drip which is absorbed by the pads I wear. However, I have caught a cold & when I sneeze urine is forced down the front of my scrotum & is turning the skin very red & raw. I have been using a barrier cream that I bought at Walmart & it has kept my skin protected until the sneezing problem started. Does anyone know of a product that will protect my skin from the urine? _________________ PSA 18, Gleason 3+3+6, Age 58, Rising PSA since 1999, Biopsy 5% of one core

Sorry to hear that you're having problems with incontinence for so long.
It's worth trying the following:
After a shower, pat dry the affected areas, then apply some vaseline.
The vaseline will prevent further skin breakdown.
It's very important to 'air' the area also, so when you're alone or lying down let the air at the area for as long as possible. Maybe with a towel underneath yourself.
Hope this helps, if it does not, please get some medical help as your skin is your largest organ. Most people don't think of it as an organ but it is!
Best Wishes,
Jean |

Jean,
Thanks I'll try that. The most frustrating thing about this issue is that my surgeon says "Every man is different. Be patient!" The problem is that as long as I am doing anything other than sitting or lying down, I get a constant drip & I never had the slightest bit of incontinence before the surgery. I do the Kegels every day & if I try to stop my stream while urinating I can only slow the stream down to a drip no matter how hard I kegel. The only time I can build up enough in my bladder to even urinate is when I sit or lie down for a while. Something is definitely wrong. I am worried that I will hqve this until I get some sort of prodedure done & the doctors seem to think I need to wait 12 to 18 months to see if it resolves on it's own. That is a long time to deal with a constant drip & 5 to 7 pads a day! _________________ PSA 18, Gleason 3+3+6, Age 58, Rising PSA since 1999, Biopsy 5% of one core

Hi Travelingman, - What you are experiencing, is probably a condition that in babies is called diaper rash. It comes from the skins continued contact with moisture. The repeated use of a medicated powder can sometimes be beneficial, in dealing with the irritaion.
I'm truly sorry that you are having such an unusually difficult time with your incontinence. Hopefully, the Kegel bio- feedback wiil soon start to pay dividends. Good luck! - John@newPCa.org (aka) az4peaks |

Try Gold Bond Medicated Powder.
Good luck. I'm not going through a lot of pads, but I still drip in between fairly normal urination. My good news is that the stream is a lot stronger than before surgery. Hang in there! _________________ Age 52

When I last changed diapers (almost 30 years ago!), the most effective treatment I ever found for diaper rash was a barrier cream made with zinc oxide and (I think) castor oil. If I remember correctly, it was available from any pharmacy. Nothing else "stuck" to the baby's bottom quite like it. _________________ Stage: T2a; Gleason: 7 (3+4); PSA: 3.8

Thanks to al of you for your suggestions! Has anyone heard from ChrisB or Can't Explain? I believe we all had surgery about the same time & I am wondering how they are doing.

Hi, Ray:
I have Chris' phone number and need to give him a call. It seemed like he was having a fairly uneventful recovery last time we spoke.

I'm doing well. A little sore around the belly button where they fixed my hernia but no big deal. Incontinence is easing, I go through maybe two or three pad changes a day. I still don't know about the ED. No erections on my own though. All in good time...
My first PSA test is next week so I'm a little nervous, hoping for the best. _________________ Age 52
