And one more question from me - adenocarcinoma of my colon has been removed along with part of sigmoidal colon recently. Chemotherapy will start in about six weeks. I heard different stories about diet and cancer i.e. that colon cancer is connected with consumption of meets, specially red meats. Are there any diets that could somehow prevent reccurance? Is there any trhuth about toxic effects of meet? A friend of mine says I should stay away from all animal products except occasionaly quark. Thanks!

Hi Montenegrita, you are still recovering from surgery and that should dictate your died rather than trying to avoid a recurrence of the cancer. The two diets may have some things in common but the may also have differences. Has your medical team given you any dietary instructions? If not, I would consult with them about this issue. I might also talk with my hospital's nutritionist to get further advice on what is best for you during the recovery period. I would guess that the advice will be to avoid any extremes and to use a lighter diet with less fats of any kind.

It is great to have you back.

No, noone talked seriously with me about diet except my hospital room-mate. When I asked, doc said I can eat everything but then when I started asking about particular foods he said "better not" or "yes". Another doctor adviced me what to avoid (fibers) but not more then that. When I asked about relation red-meats and cancer, he said there is no proven evidence that red meats are "feeding" cancer cells (what else to expect from doc to say). Well, I know one thing - I was always BIG meat eater. About 3-4 years ago my cravings for meats (red specailly) went through the ceiling, I would eat meats almost three times a day. My doc said that cancer appeared 2-3 years ago... and gave first signs in June this year (I was originally missdiagnosed by other "specialist"). Right now I have to eat lots of proteins so I am not paying much attention on how much meat I eat but would like to be more carefull after. Cheers, Montenegrita
