hello all. I posted this on the endometrial cancer forum but thought you all could help as well. I have a question about the side effects of Tamoxifen. I'm 40 years old and due to a recent surgery to remove a tumor and a lesion from my breast my doctor said the oncologist may want to put me on tamoxifen due to my hisk risk. My concerns are the chances of getting endometrial cancer as a side effect from the medicine. I've had a lot of issues with endometriosis and in 2004 I had an endometial ablation to cauderize my uterous because I bled daily for most of a year. I don't mentrate anymore but I still have my ovaries. I'm more worried about getting ovarian or endometrial cancer than breast cancer with the addition of the medication. The only family I have or know about is a sister and she had ovarian cancer at the age of 28 and colon cancer at the age of 38. I'm trying not to over worry this but without a family history on record besides my sister it's hard not to. Since I can't have children because of the ablation would I benefit from having the ovaries and uterous removed or is that too drastic. The doctors said the tamoxifen would send me into immediate mentopause anyway. I have two girls 18 and 19 so I'm considering having the BRCA test done but that's another issue. I'm confused and need some direction please.

Sorry about this dilemma you find yourself in. My SIL has been on tamoxifen for breast cancer for about 5 years now. She is in her early seventies. I have no clue about the mixture and endometriosis.

My mother died from Ovarian cancer and I was damn sure I didn't want to go that way. I had one ovary and my uterus yanked at age 30, followed by the other ovary in my late 30's. Both were done as part of other surgeries (hysterectomy & exploratory surgery), but I was glad to have them out. I'm so sorry that your sister has gone through two cancers -- but what a survivor!

What is your doctor saying about this combination and your risks being increased? I know my daughter doesn't want the test done despite the history of ovarian and breast cancer in the family.
