I have posted several times and rely on the knowledge and real life experiences on this forum. My BIL has been approved to start Avastin and CPU - 11 in April. He is working full-time and has felt more fatigued this last month (his Temador was tripled the last two months). I spoke to a Counselor at the local Oncology group concerning my sister's mental state (which was of a real concern last month). She was surprised that my BIL is working full-time. Of course she knows a lot more than I do concerning his case since she has access to his records. My question is will my BIL be able to work while he goes through this next treatment that will be administered 2 x's a month for the month of April and May? I know every person reacts different to each of these treatments but an overall census will help. I am afraid that if he can't he will lose this positive drive he has.
Thanks in advance for any information. My prayers continue for all those affected by this ugly disease. _________________ Charlene |

Charlene, I was not on the same chemotherapy that your BIL is taking but I too worked full time back in 92-93 when I was on chemotherapy. I was fortunate to work in a hospital and that my boss allowed me to make up my own schedule. If I worked at a job that was less flexible, I would have had to take off a lot of days due to nausea, weakness, and hospitalizations.
I would recommend that your BIL at least talk to his boss about the possibility of the chemotherapy effecting his ability to work full time or his potential need to take unscheduled days off. _________________ Jim

Thanks Jim, my BIL also works at a hospital and his work cohorts have been wonderful. I know he will push himself because that is how he is. Sometimes I think he is afraid to slow down because that will mean he is giving in. We all know better; he will continue to fight this. _________________ Charlene |

Hello Charlene
I'm not going to be negative in regard to yr BIL continueing to work. All I will say is GOOD ON HIM for giving it a go! Only he will know whether he is up to working or not. I'm sure he will pull back a little if he's not well with the chemo. As he works with a very supportive organisation I'm sure things will be fine.
How is yr Sister coping now? I hope her spirits have lifted after having counselling?
Thinking of you all.
Cheers, Angie. _________________ Brother diagnosed with GBMIV Feb 07

Hi Charlene, glad to hear your BIL has got a fighting spirit. He is fortunate to be in such a great working environment (especially when something like this happens). My partner unfortunately was working on the roads when he was diagnosed so there was no way he could continue (we live in the tropics). Like Angie said - I hope your sister is coping better. Being in the same position as her I can fully understand how she feels and it does help having people to talk to - this forum being one of the great supports as well. Love and thoughts to you and your family. Jen _________________ Love to all. Jen.

Thanks to all for your support. Everything has been approved for my BIL to start Avastin in April. We are all excited about this treatment because of all of the positive information we found. Of course they are aware that this may only extend his life and I am sure they are in for some hard ties.
My sister is staying strong. They are making plans (as much as possible) for a vacation this summer. It will be close to home but at least they will get away. My heart goes out all of the survivors, caregivers, and fighters. _________________ Charlene |
