My wife finished treatment (chemo + radiation) last November for Stage II Hodgkins Lymphoma that was in her chest and neck. A PET scan that was taken immediately before the radiation (at the end of October) was clean Laughing She had her first follow-up scan last week and the report contains some interesting findings. Most importantly, there is "no convincing evidence of recurrent or residual lymphoma." Secondarily, though, there is a concerning new finding regarding a "focus of intensely increased uptake within the rectum (maximum SUV value of 22)." The report goes on to say that "no definite mass is seen on the CT images, though the study is very limited without contrast" and the "intense uptake within the rectum is nonspecific." Her oncologist says that this is nothing to worry about, thinking that it is some type of inflammation, and has requested an MRI w/contrast to aid in diagnosis.
My question is, has anyone ever seen an SUV value of 22 or more? and, if so, was it cancerous? Could it really be inflammation? Her hodgkins lymphoma had SUV values of less than 5 so this is a bit concerning. Also, what exactly does the radiologist mean by "no definite mass" and "nonspecific."
