I'm currently on West Virginia Medicaid and receiving Disability benefits. My Oncologists is in the state of Virginia. My medicaid has no problem paying for the travel (driving), hotel, and food for my visits even though it's out of state.

My question is:

1. I'm thinking of moving back to California soon but I don't want to change the hospital I use or Oncologist. If I switch to California Medicaid, do you think they will pay for the air travel to Virginia or will they try and make me switch Dr.'s?

Thanks,

sodapop, it is my understanding that if you move, you need to change your Medicaid (I think you mean Medicare?). California might have better Medicaid/Medicare anyhow. Just don't come to Tennessee Razz. If they will pay for you to go to Virginia for treatment is a question that I cannot answer. However, there are some wonderful medical centers in California too.

Sodapop, how did your tests turn out from February.
You haven't posted there for a month.

My husband was just diagnosed with stage iv Melanoma, brain,
lungs, stomach and we have been going to the Angeles Clinic in
Santa Monica, it is associated with St. John's Hospital, they have
some fabulous cancer doctors. Dr. Stephen O'Day, Dr. Peter Boasberg
among many others.

My husband is going in for treatment next week.
He has Medicare but I am going to look into Medi-cal, too, as
he is eligible for both to cover the gaps in Medicare.
The treatment is 5 days in the hospital with intensive chemo and
interluken-2 and interferon, I think. I'm worried sick as he hasn't
any symptoms and this was discovered by happenstance. It is hard
for me to reconcile that a seemingly healthy guy has to be poisoned
for cancer that I just don't see any signs of.... I know, denial.
Wonder what to pack for the hospital. I can stay with him 24/7, if I want,
and I get panic attacks when I can't see him.. it is like I feel he needs all
of my protection.

Good luck to you all... and even though it it is my best friend, soul mate
and husband, I feel like I have cancer, too, and wish it were me with that
chit instead of my poor husband.
