Hi Everyone,

I am editing my post from yesterday:

News from Oncologist today on 2nd PET (1st since treatment completed):

NO NEW CANCER Laughing

My husband's tumor has shrunk from 6.9 cm X 3.9 cm to 4.3 cm X 2.5 cm, great news!!
Although the tumor still has cancer, we are praying that it will continue to shrink.

The 3 lymph nodes that were involved are now clear of cancer Laughing

They will continue to do PET scans and CT scans to keep a close eye on the cancer.

They may put him on a maintenance chemo depending how he responds now to what he has already been through. This last round of chemo has really taken a lot out of him. He is very tired, more trouble breathing and over all very fatiqued. So right now he needs to just get a lot of rest and try to build his system back up. If anybody can do it, he will!

God Bless Everyone,
Bernice

Hi - first, congratulations on the good news. Even if the tumour has not disappeared, the reduction in size is cheering. I hope your interview with the radiologist is positive.

What needs to be done practically is to build up your husband's strength and immune system to enable his body to cope with all that has happened. Check out the complementary forum for what people are doing. Also, have a read through some of the information in this site [ignore the fact that it is a breast cancer site - the information is valid for other people too!]: http://www.breastcancer.org/tips/immune/boost.jsp

Thank you for your reply Vee.

I will definitely take a look at the site you included. I know my husbands biggest concern right now is his immune system.

Thank You,
Bernice

Hi Bernice,
Hooray for some good news! Very Happy I am sad to hear your hubby is so wiped out by all the treatments though. I would agree with Vee on investigating complimentary treatments to boost his immune system. Getting cancer patients to eat is a huge feat, I found that out with my husband Danny(he lost 20 pounds in hospital). I did alot of reading of recipes and such and decided to sneak alot of good foods, ie. veggies, into things he would eat. Soups also are good hiding places for those veggies most men avoid but are so good for them and it is comfort food. I got some Emergen-C, it is a high vitamin C drink mix, like tang, some supplemental fiber which I put in cereal, meatloaf, mashed potatoes and mac n cheese and consulted his docs on what vitamins I could load him up on. He was anemic and his B-12 was low, so I added iron and B vits as well as food sources. Lastly and the hardest to get my husband used to was drinking fresh made juice. I bought a juicer and followed recipes using fruits and veggies that did specific things like boost immunity, fight fatigue and eliminate dehydration all in one glass. Fresh white grape juice is on the top of the list as it gives back iron as well as containing antioxidants.
Good luck and best wishes to you and your hubby,
Onecoyote(Charlene)

Hey Bernice!

Well, this was certainly some well-deserved good news for the two of you! Very Happy This is huge results. Yay!!! Congratulations. Hopefully maintenance chemo can keep things held in check for a long time. That would be wonderful.

I'm sorry to hear he was zonked by the treatments. The cumulative effects can be quite tiring. Give him a few weeks and he'll start to be his old self again. It's quite amazing what a chemo break can do for someone.

Prayers and hugs for stability,

PBJ
