My mum told me today that my sister has been given a 6 month prognosis on her lung cancer.

What exactly does this mean. She has told my mum not to tell anyone.

It will be so hard to visit her next week knowing her prognosis.

Oh Sam, I am so sorry to hear of your sister poor prognosis. Unfortunately, this means that most people in your sister's condition will die within 6 months. However, if my prognosis had been correct, I would have died over 5 years ago. People do live beyond their prognosis. I cannot tell you how long your sister still has. However, I can tell you that every day she or for that matter anyone is alive is a gift. Help her to find was to enjoy each day for the rest of her life... no matter who long that might be.

Right now, you and your sister and your family are probably still in shock. Please be assured of my thoughts and prayers.

Just a guessimate on the doctor's part of how long your sister has to live. No one not even the doctor can say how long your sister has to live. She could die sooner or she could live beyond the six months. It is really hard to say.

The best advice I can give you is take it a day at a time..... Live in the moment. Make the most of the time you have left with your sister. I am planning to do that with my dad.

I'm sorry Sam. I'm sure this comes as a blow to you, but as the other's have said, doctor's don't know everything. Only God knows the time and just be there to give support and comfort in whatever way you can. Make sure you take special care of your parents as this is the worst nightmare a parent can ever go through.

You all will be in my thoughts and prayers.
