My brother-in-law was diagnosed 13 months ago with an inoperable GBM. We have exhausted radiation and are continuing on temador treatment. He and his family have decided to go ahead with the Avastin treatment. Does anyone have experience with this treatment? If so, can you tell me pros and cons about your experience? We are currently seeking treatment at MD Andersen, but really like what we have heard from patients at Duke. Because it is experimental, her medical insurance will not cover any conditions that may effect his health once he begins treatment. Any pearls of wisdom from those who have taken this road would very appreciated. Thanks.

In this forum, there is a post called "our story". I have conversed with this person about her husband, who is now doing the Avastin treatment and I am sure can be of some help.

my father is currently on temodar, and had follow up Cyberknife treatment. But I would be very interested in seeing the effects of Avastin and how successful this. Of course, I am hoping that this is very successful for all who follow this course of treatment.

Any info you can share with me would be appreciated

It is with a heavy heart that I report Michael has lost his fight with GBM on Thursday, September 21, 2006.

He was undergoing Avastin treatments at MD Anderson since the beginning of August. All was going pretty well during the first phase of the treatments. Then, just after Labor Day, the MRI showed rampant growth of a new tumor on the left side. Michael soon developed very painful headaches and was hospitalized for a week in Houston before we could transport him back home.

The funny thing was that the Avastin diminished the original tumor drastically, which makes us wonder what the outcome would be if we had started earlier with this treatment.

I would encourage those who might have the option of this treatment to discuss it early on with their physicians. It shows promise.

Keep up the fight and God bless.

I am sorry to hear about michael.

I think the hard thing with this cancer is that they still need to find some new drugs that can really kill brain cancer. Sounds to me it was working on the existing tumor but being brain cancer, it is aggressive and new growths are always a possibility.

What michael did in trying this new treatment was very courageous and brave.

My deepest sympathy to you and your family.
