I've been on vacation all week, my sister from England has come over with her husband to spend a week here in Virginia with us. We have had such fun. Kayaking on the CHesapeake Bay, watching for deer and herons, lovely weather, good food. Went to a bluegrass concert one day in the mountains, gorgeous drive. I am feeling better and stronger every day, good thing 'cos the surgery is coming up on June 18th and I am starting to get nervous.
The good news - we had a great time, I also talked with the Cancer place that I mentioned, where they support you with natural healing, herbs etc. in addition to the regular meds that the Medical world offers. I am showing their recommendations to my surgeon this week (June 4) when I go for my next exam.
Very sad news though, my son's friend in California, who was diagnosed stage 4 colon cancer 8 months ago - well he passed away - his liver got blocked and gave out. He was so wonderful, so many friends and touched so many lives in a great and positive way, including mine. The memorial service was today. So - I just wanted to post a note here in his memory as he was such a fighter and so positive, a great inspiration to me and all his many friends.
He will live on in our memories of him.

That hits home. I was also diagnosed about 8 month ago with colon cancer. The only difference is mine was stage 3, on the verge of becoming stage 4.
To think I could be dead right now is very unsettling. It makes me very thankful I caught it when I did.
I am sorry for your loss. _________________ 10/01/07 - Removal of Stage III Colon Cancer Tumor and Temporary Colostomy

Thanks for your note REB - you are indeed a very fortunate man. How are things going now the chemo is over? How long before they check to see if the Big C is all gone and what will they do? Will it be a PET scan or a CT scan and how long do you have to wait?
This is such an individual disease isn't it? Everyone has a slightly different story/outcome/and experience...

I am still feeling the numbness in my hands and feet. I think it is getting better, or maybe I am getting used to it.
I believe I'll get yearly checkups- PET scan and colonoscopy. They won't consider me "cured" unless I remain cancer free five years from October 1, 2007 (October 1, 2012).
I am still healing from the reverse colostomy.
How are you doing. I bet you are ready to get the surgery over. _________________ 10/01/07 - Removal of Stage III Colon Cancer Tumor and Temporary Colostomy
