Hello,

I've just found out that my step daughter has bower cancer, dukes staging 3. At this stage she is having radiation and chemotherapy. We have been told that is is "curable".

Right now this is all the information that we have. I know this is a big ask, but does anyone know of people beating this disease?

Oh my goodness QG... not another person in your family Sad. I know you have been through a lot with your parents. But Colon Cancer is so different than Pancreatic Cancer. I am not sure if I would use the word "curable" but she certainly has a better chance of living for many years than your father did. If you do not mind me asking, how old is your step daughter?

You will learn a lot from the other members who contribute to the Colon Cancer Forum.

You and your step daughter are in my thoughts and prayers.

Hello Brainman,

She is 35. She is only a few years younger than me so it's scary. We are more like sisters. Its breaking my Husbands heart, as he was there for my Mum and Dad, and now his own daughter.

We will try and get more information, but his daughter has been very secretive, we now live on different continents and she never told us anything in any of the telephone conversations we've had.

It seems distance is a real curse at times.

QG,
Loads of people have beaten colon/rectal cancer into submission (I guess "remission" is the proper term). I was diagnosed with stage 3, had the typical course of treatment (chemo/rad folowed by surgery, then more chemo). I'm halfway through my post-surgery chemo and I am 100% positive that I'll beat the 5-year odds. I know of two other young men (40 or under) in my area that are in the same boat and expect to live the rest of their lives in remission.

There are lots of variables - size and location of the tumor, lymph node interaction, growth through the wall of the colon/rectum, etc. The good news is that as long as it has not metastisized (spread) to any other organs, the treatment has a good record of success.

I could go on and on, as you can see I've had a rather positive experience so far. I wish you good luck and aloha,
RH
