My father, Elmer "Homey" Dildy, age 74, passed away Sept 22nd, 2009. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on Sept 4th. He was a kindhearted, giving and loving man whom I miss terribly. He passed away with his family by his side (in his recliner as he wanted) and is now watching over all of us. I love and miss you, Homey.
This poem spoke to me when I read it. My father was a hard working man who worked until he was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2008, which he overcame only to have another cancer sneak up on him too quickly. He worked until the moment he drew his last breath fighting to stay with us.
God saw you getting tired
and a cure was not to be
so he put his arms around you
and whispered,"Come to Me"
With tearful eyes we watched you
and saw you pass away
and although we love you dearly
we could not make you stay.
A Golden heart stopped beating
hard working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove us
he only takes the best.
