    pet scan

    Hi,
my husband finally had a pet scan, but it will be a few days before he sees the specialist,
could someone tell me what color cancer lights up on a pet scan and also can other things light up the same color like infections or non cancerous masses and how can you tell the difference.
also my husband keeps coughing up small bits that are hard like bone but are more of a see through sandy color, does anyone know that this could be.

    thanks
    xxx shazzie

Hi Shazzie. A Pet Scan film is like a black and white negative. Cancer shows up as a bright white spot (or spots) against a black background on a Pet Scan. The die they use with a Pet Scan is absorbed most by fast growing cells. It might be absorbed by other things but still cancer would show up the clearest.
