Does anyone know if you have been diagnosed stage 4 in pancreatic cancer that your stage can never go back? I was stage 4 last august with 3-9 months to live. Last month my mri doesnt show the tumor at the head of my pancreas and nothing shows on my liver. At least thats what the mri tech wrote up in his findings. My ca 19-9 had reached 2800 in october and it was 42 last month.
I have never heard of a cancer stage going back unless the original diagnosis was wrong. Unless the doctor is very sure that the original was wrong, he/she will still treat it as if it was a stage IV just to be on the safe side. The treatments you have received must be working
I was diagnosed in september with a tumor at the head of my pancreas and mets to the liver, stage 4.Symptoms were in august but the correct diagnosis took a month.I started chemo, gemzar and tarceva,in october when my ca 19-9 was 2800.my chemo was once a week for 3 weeks and one week off.Last month I wanted to have an mri to see what was happening because my ca19-9 was down to 42 and the normal is below 37.The results showed the tumor wasnt visible nor were any lesions or shadows on my liver. It didnt mean it was gone but not visible.Last week I went to h lee moffitt cancer center to get opinions or suggestions.while I was there I had blood tests that showed my ca19-9 was 32.6.The doctor was real surprised,he was the one who told me in september if I didnt have chemo I would live under 3 months and with chemo maybe 3-9 months. He said he only seen 2-3 people go into remission from stage 4 but confirmed after looking at my mri I was in remission. He said most surgeons wouldnt perform a whipple now because if it took a long time to recover and my cancer came back,I would be able to receive any chemo treatments.he suggested 3 more months of chemo. If everything was still the same, come off of chemo,ca19-9 tests once a month and mri every 3 months.
hi postman.. thanks for the inspiration! i felt comfort hearing your confession.
my mom 60 of age was diagnosed of pancreatic metastatic cancer stage 4. at first her physician thought it was hepa A because of the jaundice and gave her medication for a month. but the jaundice gets worse so we asked another doctor. she had mri and found out that there are mass in her pancreas and liver. she undergone surgery apr.24,2010 just to remove the biles on her liver to vanish the jaundice but did not remove the mass on her pancreas because according to the doctor its risky. so after a month of rest, last saturday she is undergone a chemo (gemzar) and takes tablet 5x a day (xeloda). i pray it works for her because i dont want to see her in pain anymore. truly im also in pain seeing her loosing her appetite, feeling abdomen pain etc. and coming from a poor family chemotheraphy is very expensive for us. its also a problem for us where we to get our expenses but i always believe that God will provide..
thanks because this site helps me ease my pain that everytime i get into this site i feel comforted. were not alone.. i also need prayers for my mom that she lasted long. i always pray to God not to take her yet from us because im not ready yet. for 27yrs of my life still single and been with her even sharing bed together, its really hard i always thought where will i be when my moms gone? how will i live my life w/o her. thats why prayers are my strength to hope for another years for my mom..
thanks for reading this..
I cant say what has sent me into remission.Prayer is number one on the list.chemo and tarceva are the medical answers and my diet is no meat or sugar.Only poultry and fish especially salmon, green vegetables, and juicing with fruit and veggies. Also the budwig protocol which is 2 parts low fat cottage cheese beaten with cold flax seed oil.3 tablespoons a day.Other than prayer,I cant say what else is working, maybe a mixture of everything. My chemo doctor has 5 other patients and no one is doing well at all.I am starting to believe that the budwig diet has a lot to do with it because the other patients are getting the same chemo and tarceva as me.
