Hello everyone, I am new here on the forum! I have lots of questions and am also very worried. Okay let me introduce myself first. I am a young mother of a son of 3 years and married. 2 years ago I had cervical dysplasia due to the hpv virus, so I needed to be operated.
This last past year I have seen several changes in my mouth. (does this has to do with hpv?) I Have seen bumps in the back of my tongue and they have never disappeared. The doctor told me last year that it was swollen papillae. So I did not worry much.
But after a while I felt like my whole mouth was getting heavy and it was very painful on the inside of my cheeks. Also my gums have discolored at the time from healthy light pink to reddish. So the doctor sends me to the dentist. But the dentist told me everything was fine and not to worry.
Now things are getting worse, I have like cold symptoms pain in my throat and it does not go away. Also on my right side of the tongue I have developed little bumps all the way in the back and they hurt too. (tingling feeling or burning)
So I made an appointment with the doctor she tells me that I have allergies first, then she gave me medication and nothing was solved. I still have the same symptoms. I Went back to the doctor and this time she says I have lichen planus. (and I am worried about cancer and she assures me that I do not have oral cancer, but somehow I did not trust her)
SO she sends me to the dermatologist so that he can confirm that I have Lichen Planus. Now the dermatologist tells me another story that I do not have Lichen Planus and sends me to the nose, throat, ear specialist. (don’t know how you call this in one word in English) .. So I ask him could it be cancer? He says it is an possibility. So now I need an Biopsy done of the tongue and gums to confirm all this. Now these symptoms in my mouth are now going very rapidly. From one day to another I have a new symptom. Now my appointment is until 5 January at the nose, throat, ear specialist. But I cannot wait any longer anymore, so I am going to Colombia to do a checkup there. ( I an from the Caribbean) I am so worried that I have oral cancer. But I pray that it is not cancer but something else.
Hello and welcome to the forums.
I am so sorry that you are having these fears.
We can not diagnose you and it would be very irresponsible of us to try.
You are doing EXACTLY the right thing, you are pushing your doctors to do tests and you know something is wrong with your body.
This is such a frightening time, everything just goes around and around in our heads and we expect the worst.
Good luck with them and I hope for good results and I hope you will update us.

2 yrs ago a lump developed on my mom's neck and she went to see about it. the doctor did some moderate testing and told her it was a fat ball, and if it annoyed her to come back and he would take it out. He never did the proper testing. it was actually cancer and now when we finally found out.. it was stage 3.
Stick with it. You know you better then anyone else.
Hi Didee thank you for wishing me luck! I know that something is def wrong in my mouth and the dermatologist said that def something is going on in my mouth. So I go for my feeling this time and not what a doctor thinks that I have. I rather have the specialist test me with a biopsy, that is the only thing to rule out cancer. It is frighting indeed not knowing yet what it is that I have. And I am very afraid. Hopefully I will get an answer soon!
Hi tiffsedge I am sorry to hear that your mom had a lump on her neck. My brother has the same thing and the doctors here tell him that it needs to grow more first for him in order to do a biopsy. So he is also going to Colombia. I know that when someone feels that something is wrong with the body, it is not a game! It is about our health. How is your mom doing and how did she went trough all this?
I got my results back and I have had an biopsy in Colombia. The people there were very nice and helped me immediately! That's the service I need! The results said I have hyperplasia, which means My cells are normal, but due to chronic inflammation my tongue makes extra cells to repair it. The doctor said that I am fine, and that I have nothing to worry about. So I am so relaxed and relieved now. Every time I get stress I can provoke things in my body to go wrong, they told me to take some time for myself when I need it and exercise and eat healthy, do not smoke nor drink like crazy! So this new year I will take things differently and take better care of myself, as i know eating very healthy can help preventing diseases!
Thank you for responding to my mail and your support!
