Could it be cancer? Blood in stool, abdominal cramps?

I'm so afraid I could have cancer. I'm 30 years old and have recently experienced blood mixed in my stool. I believe i saw blood once in a blue moon for the past year but I didn't think anything of it. The past month its been more often.

I visited the dr and she seemed confident its a hemmoroid. Being the paronoid type I requested a colonoscopy. My appointment isnt for another month and my symptoms seems to be getting worse...so I think.

The past few weeks I've been feeling bubbles in my stomach. I was not hungry just gassy bubbles that sometimes gave me more gas than usual. I am usually constipated going 3x a week but every few weeks I would have softer and more frequent stools. I always assumed the constipation has cleared and softer stools were making their way out. Then when I ate certain foods the constipation would return. I've been like this for as long as i can remember.

The blood in stool has been in each bowl movement for the past 3 weeks. Once wrapped around the stool and othertimes just specs here and there. Always bright red and one time even pink. I also experience mucus twice in the past month. Once around the stool and once while wiping. No mucus since.

The last few days my symptoms changed and the bubbles in my stomach turned to cramps and i also just started feeling slight rectal pressure. I ate pizza the other day and had diarreah, i've been eating plain bagels for days and it seems to be holding just fine but I continue to have cramping in my stomach and slight rectal pressure.

Please describe to me your symptoms and diagnosis?

    Thanks

Well, of course it could be cancer. It also could be one of a dozen other things. Since none of us are MD's, we have no idea. But about twice a week, someone comes on this forum with a post pretty much identical to yours. You can go down the list and read them if you want. Some of them end up with cancer, but many do not. If you are climbing the walls not knowing, you might want to direct your energy to moving up your colonoscopy appointment. A month is a long time to wait. I was scoped eight days after a doc suggested I get one since he "felt something funny". Maybe if you complain loudly enough they will move it up. In the meantime, hang loose and don't believe everything you read on the internet...
DX with Lung Carcinoid Tumor 12/04
    Double Lobectomy 3/05
DX with Rectal Cancer 12/26/07 Merry Christmas!
    Radiation/Chemo 1/08
Rectal Resection 3/08, permanent colostomy. Stage 2C
    More chemo 5/08
Chemo fries bone marrow, 9 days in hospital isolation 7/08
Recurrence confirmed in pelvic region 12/09
Tumor radiated with Cyberknife treatment 3/10
    Recurrence/metastasis in pelvis/abdomen 11/10
    Xeloda/Avastin 12/10 to 01/13
    Progression to lungs found 1/13
    Erbitux 01/13 to 01/14
Acute renal failure, six days in hospital, all chemo stopped for now, 11/13
    Restarted Erbitux, lower dose 12/13
Kidney function dips again, chemo suspended again. 2/14
New chemo regimen of low-dose Irrenotecan started 4/14.
Sounds like a lot of fun, doesn't it?

    One life,
Welcome to the forum, but sorry you feel it necessary to join us.
As Buzz says, we have seen many, many posts with symptoms the same as your having.
Thankfully most turn out not to be colorectal cancer as there are a number of causes that give the same symptoms.
Dont wish to lecture, but why ohh why leave going to see your doc a year after you first noticed blood in your stools, however you are doing the right thing in getting a colonoscopy scheduled.
As Buzz says if your having serious worries push your doc to bring forward the procedure and DON'T use the Internet to self diagnose as you will find everything you read FITS what you think you have.
You'll just make yourself more worried than you are.
Please keep us updated and get your procedure moved up
    Best of luck

Get the Colonoscopy ASAP. It's the only way to be sure.
I was 47 when they found my Cancer. It was last December. For years I had blood in my stool. Because of my age I was told it was just hemmoroids by every Doctor I mentioned it to and to have a colonoscopy when I turned 50. I started having cramps in my lower abdomen and smaller stools early in 2010. I had a Cat-Scan in October and was told it was clear. The cramps continued. I had a colonoscopy in December and was told I had Advanced Colon Cancer. Turned out to be Stage 3. Not that this is what you're experiencing... But get it ruled out! You'll be fine.

I managed to move my appointment to January 2 due to a cancellation. In the meantime, the dr has prescribed me dicetel to help with the cramps. Its a common prescription for patients with IBS. It seems to be helping but I still feel the odd twinge here and there. I no longer have rectal pressure. I sometimes wonder if its the anxiety that is making the cramps worse?

I'll keep you posted. In the meantime, thanks!

    One life,
Anxiety can wreak havoc with your digestive system.
Never the less go and get the scope done and you hopefully can sleep easier and your anxieties will quiet down.
    Hope the results are good
    Please keep us posted
    Happy Christmas

I wanted to ensure I came back online to write about my diagnosis. I know there are many people out there with similar symptoms looking for hopeful results.

My colonoscopy on the 2nd went very well. To my surprise it was in fact internal hemmoroids that were causing blood to appear in my stools. Baz10, as you mentioned in your reply, anxiety had played a big part in the abdominal cramping. The initial cramping/bubbling may have started from a bacterial infection and the bloodly stools were coincedentally showing up at the same time ( I no longer have any symptoms of cramps).

Unfortunately, I logged onto the internet and researched my symptoms all of which pointed to colon cancer. I do agree I waited too long to get this "checked out". I am very fortunate that it was in fact hemmoroids but I would never again postpone a dr's visit should something like this happen in the future. For those who have yet to be diagnosed, please STAY OFF the internet and visit a dr. If you feel something isn't right, be persistant and request a colonoscopy.

My heart goes out to those who have been diagnosed with cancer. Please stay strong and optimistic that you will get through this...we are all praying and fighting for a cure for this horrible disease!!!

    Thank you everyone.

I came on this site to try and find answers and what I found were amazing people supporting eachother through the most difficult time in their lives. Although I appreciate your advice , I am most thankful to know that there are such wonderful people out there offering their support and encouragement all while fighting this disease themselves. You are all amazing people and I will continue to read posts and keep you all in my prayers.
