needing a hysteroscopy after transvaginal ultrasound

hello.
i will be 42 in april. i have recently gone 12 months without a period, only to have a slight one a year to the day of my last in 2011. that was 2 weeks ago. now i am spotting/bleeding again.

i had a transvaginal ultrasound on monday, and the doctor called requesting a hysteroscopy. my endometrial lining was abnormally thick.

i have lost about 7 lbs in the last year, but have had no other symptoms.
can anyone give me some thought as to what may be going on?

(had ablation in 2002, following 2 successful pregnancies. no hrt, no bc.)

Hi Lisa,

A thickened endometrial lining is associated with endometrial cancer, but it definitely does not mean that you have cancer. It could be lots of other things, and I believe that cancer is one of the less likely possiblities. But still a possiblity that needs to be investigated. I had a thickened endometrial lining and was followed up with an endometrial biopsy (no hysteroscopy). In my case, the biopsy provided a diagnosis of endometial cancer. I then had a quick and amazingly painless hysterectomy and now I'm just fine.

My guess is that you do not have cancer. But if you do, endometrial cancer is one of the most curable cancers that you can get. It presents with vaginal bleeding and is usually caught early.
