my moms progress and new decisions

Hello all, so my mom got a brief report after her rescans (catscan and petscan) there showed dramatic improvement in the catscan. The doctor wants her to continue on the chemo and to have radiation before the surgery. He has to speak with the radiologists and surgeon. We were hoping to not have to do the radiation which was the original thought. (Two other family members did not do well at all with the radiation) My thought is that we need to investigate more with the oncologist and radiologists and to find the best possible surgeon in the ny,nj area. All the while my mom is worried about getting back to work. We knew this would be a long battle but I think things (that god) have been going so smoothly this far we thought it would continue. Keep us in your prayers and any advice is welcome!
    Blessings, Debi

    Debi,
I am from NJ, my dad was recently dianosed with stomach cancer 3 weeks ago after he had surgery to remove part of his stomach & small intestine. At that point they found cancer and we are moving forward with radiation & chemotherapy which should start in a couple weeks. We got an opinion from the oncologist at the hospital where he had the surgery (Virtua in Mt. Holly) & just went over to Fox Chase in PA today. We also have an appointment next week with Cooper in NJ. I am curious what hospitals you have been referred to or were thinking of getting an opinion from? Your mother & family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi Heather, sorry to hear about your dad. I live in North Jersey and the oncologist and surgeon are from Valley Hospital in Ridgewood. We were going to go for a second opinion at sloan kettering but didn't feel we could wait the additional month for the appointment. However I am looking into second opinion regarding the surgery itself if it is recommended.
Blessings to you and your family,
    Debi
