Are you young and overweight with Uterine Cancer?

I am 36 years old and I was diagnosed a couple of days ago with Stage 1 Grade 1 Uterine Cancer. I have been reading a lot about it and it appears that obesity is a risk factor.

I have been overweight or obese since childhood and have always had irregular periods. I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes about 8 years ago and I have had high blood pressure. These are other risk factors in Uterine cancer. The thing that confuses me is that two years ago, with the help of an dietician and endocrinologist, I lost 85 lbs putting me close to a healthy weight. I started having regular periods and even confirmed ovulation with a blood test and keeping track of my basal morning temperatures.

While we were trying to get pregnant, I put back on about 45 lbs but my Diabetes and blood pressure were still controlled and I seemed to be having regular periods but they were getting lighter and included mid cycle spotting. My fertility doctor found the cancer when she did a hysteroscopy.

My question: how many of you are also overweight or obese and are young with Uterine cancer? I am not judging since I am there myself. I just want to get an idea. I know so many people who are overweight or obese who don't get this. It is hard not to be so angry with myself for not controlling my weight. But, as many of you know, it is not simple or easy to reach and maintain a healthy weight--especially when you have been that way since elementary school!

    Update

I met with the oncologist yesterday and he said in no uncertain terms that my weight was a direct contributor of this cancer. Obesity has led to diabetes and now cancer. He even suggested weight loss surgery. I am currently about 75lbs overweight.

It looks like I will be undergoing hormone therapy--Megace (which is an appetite stimulant) and a Mirena IUD. To really beat the cancer, I need to get to a healthy weight. I could really afford to lose 85 lbs since I am 6' tall and not really big boned. I probably have the bone structure of an athlete.

So, once again, the weight is killing me. It's not like I haven't battled it my whole life! I just wish there were a little switch in my brain that would make me reach homeostasis--equalibrium in what I eat and what I need to eat.

I'm not the least bit overweight......if anything, I am UNDER weight by about 10 lbs. I've also had no health issues (other than asthma). I'm in my late 40's and have never had children (have heard that could be the reason). It doesn't run in either side of my family. This diagnosis completely blind-sided me and my OB/GYN.
