Post Sentinal Node Removal....

Hi all,
I had my SNB on the 1st May and thank god it came back clear and so far I'm No sign of disease.

My right arm pit is totally healed up from the surgery yet I have a strange sensation in my right shoulder that feels like a tight tendon. I cant push my arm up above my head without a very sore burning sensation and i've got what appears as a solid vein which i can feel quiet prominantly through the skin running away from my armpit up towards the top of my shoulder, the path of which follows the exact line of my scar. I'm aware that the procedure sometimes leads to the area needing to be drained due to a build up of fluid and I have booked in to see the specialist again to see if its anything abnormal. Just wondering if anyone can shed any light on this in the meantime?? My appointment isn't for another 3 weeks!

Hi Alex. It is very good news that the SNB was clear! I am not sure what will happen next. I suspect that your doctor will just what to take a wait and see approach with close followups.

Alex, the burning sensation is normal.... I had my SNB in my left inquinal groin, and when I moved around, the lymphatic fluid buildup would shift around and it burned like holy hell -- like acid...I literally had to scream (or yell out at least) on more than a few occasions in the middle of the night... If it is lymphadema associated with your SNB, it will pass ...

If it is not mild lymphadema (or more than that), then they likely had to cut through a minor nerve when they did the SNB and the burning and tightness is associated with the nerve issue.... Most nerves can regenerate but it takes a little bit of time, and sometimes the nerve damage, while getting better with time, never fully heals or restores to "normal"....

But gives this time.... and keep up wit the skin checks....
