    Blood Pressure

    Hi Dr. Leo,

I am 6 years post treatment for Medullary BC. This question is not directly related to this. I have a pretty steady blood pressure of around 135/94 more or less. I am 69 and I wonder, should I be on a blood pressure pill? Would this adversely affect my BC status, of no new disease?

I would appreciate you letting me know what you think.

    Thank you, Shirlann

    Hi Shirlann

Your blood pressure is already abnormal. But the diagnosis is confirmed by 2 measurements that are abnormal on two sepparate visits. Depending on your risk factors for cardiovascular disease, you could be started on treatment. No matter what, the doctor will advise you on dietary and lifestyle changes: weight loss, salt restriction and exercise.

So I would recommend you see your primary care doctor to evaluate this. It will not interfere with your BC.

    regards,
    lf
