I found some humor in all this madness! went over to mom's early yeaterday morning. Which I stay a couple of days a week to clean and do her laundry and fill her basket back up with snacks. Anyway, I get there yesterday and she says to me "Vick, my surgery will be pretty soon, do you think you could take me to get my fingernails and toenails done"...off we went...not your normal pre-op routine...lol. Then this morning she says "My hair looks horrible" so off we go to the hair salon to get her hair done! She She looked really nice, put on a pair of jeans, which she hadn't worn in months and said "I ain't wearing them darn depends, Why, what if we have a wreck! I'd rather them take me to hospital with dirty drawers on than that big ole thing. They would think the wreck scared me and I crapped my pants and that ok!.....she looked so sassy! We had so much fun, we laughed and laughed.

Sometimes she get the shakes really bad. Even when she has ate. Any ideas what would cause that.

I love a day full of laughter!

shakes? could be blood sugar levels ask the doctor about that one-shes not an alchoholic is she? or it could be side effects from a med. Id still ask the doctor

Waiting for her surgery on the 26 of this month. She feals really good. The gastro surgeon calls my sister last night and says that since moms is so advanced that they may end up doing an illestomy. Said he wanted to do another colonoscopy to shoot dye in there so he can map it. I do not really know what he means. This call sent mom into orbit. She has all but refused the colonoscopy. I think she will give in. Does anyone know about illestomies and what this means for her.

Vickie....see my profile, I had an ileostomy done after my chemo/ radiation, when they did the surgery to remove my first tumor in 2008.

Usually this is done on the right lower side, they will teach your Mom and you in the hospital on how to care for it. I even had a nurse come two or three times a week at first as it was so hard to get used to.

For me it took about four weeks before I was handling it with any grace. Ilestomies have very wet loose output, so they fill up fast. I will be honest...I hated every minute I had mine and coudn't wait for the reversal...which was done around 6-8 weeks later - then I went on post surgery chemo.

Now I have a permanent colostomy, this is on the left side. I call it Piglet.
Output when not on chemo, or close to the end of a treatment round....is more like a regular bowel movement. I still hate it. But I hate the cancer more, so I'm learning to live with it....

Your Mom will be fine, she sounds good at taking things one day at a time, and has you to help her.
My daughter was an absolute lifesaver for me as I learned how to put up with mine. So my advice is to learn how to help her!

Now...having had Piglet for 8 months now...Its just one more thing to take care of...!
    Cheers
