    Nervous and Waiting

    I am 61 y/o and 10 1/2 years into full menopause. I am scheduled next week for a complete mammo and an ultrasound of my right underarm. I have been having breast pain and underarm pain for about three weeks. I go to a military clinic, and I see an NP. He cannot feel lumps, but I do have heavy breast tissue and self-exam has always been difficult. I am just scared to death. I had a neg. mammo last March. The NP says that pain is not usually associated with breast cancer. I don't have any of he symptoms of the inflammatory type of breast cancer. If my mammo and U/S come back OK and I am still having this pain, I know I am going to have to push for care. If you were me, what is the next step in trying to get a diagnosis? Thank you. PS: I have started taking ibuprofen and it helps with the pain, a little bit. Does this lend itself to the idea that this could be an infection rather than cancer? My mind is spinning right now. I realize from what I have been reading that it could be lymphoma. Thanks

    Second opinions are always helpful in these circumstances. Your symptoms also don't sound typical for Lymphoma either but do pursue this until you get an answer that satisfies you. Also stop self diagnosing on the internet as this is the very worst thing you can do in your circumstance as it will only drive you bonkers with fear.
