Anyone hear about this clinical trial for GBM using CBD:THC?

    http://www.gwpharm.com/GW%20Pharmace...rme%20GBM.aspx

    http://clinicaltrial.gov/ct2/show/NC...+cancer&rank=7

My mom has pancreatic cancer, but I know a great deal about this company and just wanted to share it with you guys.

This is a oral spray composed of 1:1 CBD:THC ratio. It is already approved for for the treatment of MS.

Should be interesting to get the full results in a few years. Looks promising.

I hope for the best for your mother.

I note that the study to which you link is not accepting participants.

Note to anyone visiting the brain tumor forum in search of clinical trials: Please search at www.clinicaltrials.gov. While it is a US government website, it contains information about clinical trials throughout the world.

The www.clinicaltrials.gov site can be searched with keywords including your particular type of brain cancer (glioblastoma, anaplastic astrocytoma, etc) and whether your disease is newly diagnosed or recurrent. Searches can also be narrowed to countries, continents, or regions, and to study phases.

Phase 1 studies are trials of safety only and seldom helpful to the participant. (I'll put that a little more bluntly. A Phase 1 study seriously harmed my sister.) Phase 2 and 3 studies are to be preferred.

Also, never participate in a study that does not include standard treatment in addition to the treatment being studied. (That is, for GBM, do NOT participate in a study for new diagnoses unless it includes radiation and Temodar.)

Thanks for the kind words for my mother.

Yes the trial is already underway. And yes it is a phase 1/2a so safety is the primary endpoint and efficacy is secondary of course. Sorry I don't know much about the standard of care for GBM. This trial using the CBD:THC is also using Temozolomide. I don't know much about it, just thought people here would appreciate the information.

Also if you were so inclined you could make your own 1:1 CBD:THC ratio if you were in a state or country that approved of marijuana medically. Could be a ray of hope for people who have exhausted all other options. Hope is always a good thing in my book. When a multi billion dollar company is conducting clinical trials on marijuana to fight cancer you know the days of it being considered a quack medicine are long gone.

Smokey, Temozolomide (called Temodar in US, Temodal elsewhere) is the standard chemo for GBM
Wife died from a GBM, November 2012. The full story in this thread

    Smokey,

How did you come across this clinical trial?
What was your experience finding clinical trials and the latest scientific developments? Did you do research on the internet, talk to physicians, biotech companies etc?
How is the trial going currently for your mum? Do you have to pay anything? How long does it take?

I hope all is well with your mum.

My mom isn't on this clinical trial. My mom has pancreatic cancer and this trial only recruited 20, is only for recurrent GBM, and I believe it is in the UK, and the trial is closed. I know about this clinical trial because I research bio-tech companies for investment opportunities and have been perusing the internet looking at cannabis and cancer for my mother.

My mom isn't on any clinical trial but she is doing chemo and taking pure cannbidiol oil and pure THC oil every day. Just research/google cannabis and brain tumors and or just cannabis and cancer. Seems a lot of research is being done specifically looking at cannabis and brain tumors, but I am trying anyway for my moms pancreatic tumor.

I am in no way saying cannabis will cure cancer. Just that pre-clinical research looks promising and now human clinical trials are commencing. If anything the stuff sure gets my mom to eat like a horse, and takes away any pain that she experiences.

I am closing this thread now, but I encourage anyone who is dealing with GBM and wants to discuss open trials, or trials that have had interesting reported results, to do so.
