Grandma Diagnosed with Stage 4 Bone Cancer

    Hello everyone,

I am brand new to this forum and came to it in hopes that someone might have some suggestions to help my grandmother out. My grandma, who is an amazing woman, has just been diagnosed with stage 4 Bone Cancer. While it has not spread to any organs as of yet, she does have it in ribs, her hip and her back based on all of the bone scans. She has opted to not fight it and live out her remaining days as best as possible. The doctors have given her two months to ten years (in other words, they don't know how much time she has left).

The biggest problem for her is pain. She has lupis and is allergic to many medications, including ALL opiate based pain medication. No oxycodone, hydrocodone, etc. She is in tremendous pain and is struggling to get any sleep at night. Does anyone have any suggestions on a non opiate based pain medication which will allow her remaining time to be spent happier?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

really sorry to hear of your grandma's situation.
What I'm saying is not based on medical fact, only on evidence I have seen during my part time role for a major UK cancer charity as a cancer buddy.

What I understand is that with bone cancer pain control is extremely difficult and can only be effective with the use of opiates and a few non opiate drugs.

Maybe someone can correct me if what I say is incorrect, that with bone cancer intravenous pain control is not very effective and the option to infuse drugs directly into the bone marrow is by far the best remedy.

Maybe worth talking this over with your gramdma's docs as an option as frankly it is unacceptable that anyone should have to continually suffer severe pain.

I hope you can get her pain under control.
