The Old Man and the Sea

A group of friends (we've played poker every other week for years) decided to go out on the Gulf of Mexico fishing. I have fished fresh water "up North" and from shore here in Florida, but had never been off shore before.

As a group we caught quite a few red snapper and a couple of keeper grouper, but the biggest catch and a half of the day were two sharks that I hooked. One I managed to land, the other cut the line as I got it close to the boat (hence the half catch).

We had a wonderful pot luck dinner with our wives that evening, with more excellent fresh fish than we could eat.

Here's a picture of me with "Baby Jaws". He REALLY didn't want to come out of the water. We were on pretty light tackle and eventually I got him in. Keep on living whatever life comes your way!

    po,
great pic thanks, admitting I'm a little jealous as these days I only fish fresh water.
many years ago when we in Doha where I had a 24 ft Fletcher cuddy cab we used to go out (3 boats) 30 miles to near the Iranian marine border to a spot named Mussaleh caught many a barracuda, King fish and groupa. Surprisingly people caught very few sharks.
Although I did once could hook a sea snake, no contest saved all the line up to the steel trace and cut the trace, that beastie wasn't coming aboard.
    yeah chicken Baz.
