    Bloody diarrhoea

Does anyone here ever have bloody diarrhoea? My father already 2 weeks admitted to hospital due to E. Coli infection, view days ago, he started to pass red stools, and we believe it was blood, the color = red, not black stools, its like a fresh blood color.

He has antibiotic 3 times a day, and at the morning he will receiving the IMRT treatment, Just curious what cause the bleeding on the stools, it is the infection or the IMRT ? No other symptoms, just diarrhoea.

An E. Coli infection causes open sores throughout the intestines and results in bloody diarrhea. Some people will report that only blood is coming out.

Make sure he drinks lots of water.

Also, HUS is sometimes a complication that can result in kidney failure. If his WBC is already low, he may be even more susceptible. Gemcitabine has been known to cause HUS in some patients as well.

If they are continuing on with the IMRT, I hope that they are well clear of the intestines. I'd fear that high levels of radiation on top of sores in the intestines would only make things worse. But I'm no doctor.

My father WBC was normal, that why the doctor didnt suspect any infection at the first time, they did 2 times blood culture before they know it was the infection cause the fever and chills.

He has been on the antibiotics 1 week ago, they did change it due to the sensitivity test 3 days ago, when they knowed what type of the bacteria from the blood culture, it is normal for the bloody diarrhoea when my father already on the right track of antibiotic?

Yes, the blood does not come right away, but some time later.
