So I'm pretty upset. Ive been outvoted again by my siblings. The hospital wants to insert a port into my dads chest to administer the chemo due to the fact that his veins are basically shot. He has small veins that are hard to find and they roll. Im upset because I had a friend who had to get this same port when we were teens and she ended up getting a heart infection. I believe it affected one of the valves of her heart in which she eventually passed from that infection.

Im just so pissed over this decision. Im hoping it does not become infected and I will have to pray on this. I can't even sleep thinking about it.

Yes, there is a risk with the port but your father might be a lot more comfortable having it.

I have to say the Port was the best thing ever for me..as my veins have been really bad to after a year. And now there is no pain , no searching for a vein , and it's all much faster.

Chemo 6 months, Tumour didn't grow but lymph nodes
New Chemo 4 months, not working, new spot 4mm in Liver
Aug 16, start Opdivo ,immune therapy
CT Nov 16 , Tumor shrank, Lymph nodes shrank
CT Jan 17, Tumor all the same, Lymph nodes on Neck and under arm back to normal, in Lung and Chest a bit smaller
July 17, 2x3 cm Brain Tumor found, removed in Surgery, now radiation on spot, still on Nivu

Thank you Mike & Pet, now I feel a bit better about this.
He just had his chemo done a few days ago and now has a really bad rash all over his body so Im gonna take him to urgent care to have them look at it.
I do know that chemo rashes happen but just to be on the safe side

so this round of vigorous chemo is affecting my dad really bad. I even caught him crying. He says all thats wrong is the strong metallic taste but I think he's only telling the half truth. He has this way of not wanting to tell me everything of how he's feeling because I'm the sensitive one out of all of his kids and super attached to him.

Its kind of frustrating not knowing how he's feeling exactly but I don't want to keep pushing him

    Hi Sasha,
First let me say that I have had a ‘Power Port” since 2009 & lots of different chemos plus flushes every 6 weeks. I won’t live due to the chemos , but daily LIFE was so much better with the port! Here’s a plug for your DAD on getting the port. I know that didn’t go as you wished, but, please roll with the flow.

Now I must tell you, of MAJOR importance to a patient is taking care of his/her CAREGIVER! WE don’t hurt as much for ourselves as we do for those that love us and care for us. Your Dad is just being…..”A DAD”. It is the nature of the beast (Daddies are like that). Believe me when I say that the tears were not for HIM.

I know that this process is really hard on you. Just let his love show through and don’t hold back on your own.

Warmest regards to you and Your Dad,
    zim
