Scared I might have uterine cancer

Hello, I am 41 years old, new here and haven't been diagnosed yet. But I am freaking out that I have uterine cancer. I had an US that found some fluid in my uterus and gyno now wants me to redo it. I have my second US in two days and cannot relax or think clearly.

Basically the reason why I had the US in the first place is because of my ongoing issues in the pelvic region. Since the birth of my second child 6 years ago (via a second C section) I've been having regular 26 day periods (before that my periods were very erratic). Which is great right? Except that I also started having ovulation pain coupled by heavy egg white discharge for 2-3 days during ovulation. Then over the last 3 months I started noticing blood streaks in this discharge. Then last month I was spotting for 3 days during ovulation. This finally made me go and see the gyno who assured me that cancer symptoms are "never cyclical" (his words) but he ordered an US just to give me peace of mind.

Well they found this fluid and he said he doesn't know what it means but it's 'probably nothing'. They wanted me to redo my US on days 5-7 of my cycle. But lo and behold my period was unusually late this month! It finally arrived on day 36 and was light, very mucusy (like egg white blood), and I felt bloated and had very sore boobs during this period.

I know that stress may have caused the delay. I also started taking over the counter supplements that could have done it. But I have now somehow convinced myself that I have cancer. Sorry I know I sound like a mad woman and should relax and just wait to see the results of the second ultrasound. But it's hard and I feel like I am going to hyperventilate and faint when I walk into that room! While I know most women who have endometrial cancer bleed, I can't stop thinking that some just have watery discharge...

I guess I am just after some words of reassurance.

    Hi Tui76
I am so sorry how stressed you are right now. The thing you need to do is breathe. If it is becoming too much for you please speak to your doctor - this waiting game is hard enough as it is. Please don't make it worse on yourself.
While I have not personally heard of extra fluid being found - there are so many conditions that us woman can have related to our reproductive system that as much as your mind wants to go to the worst case scenario that there are more chances of it being a non-cancerous condition than cancerous. Also please note that only a biopsy (of tissue or fluid) can confirm if cancer is present.
You are doing everything you need to do to get thing figured out. Stick to that, one step at a time and when your mind wanders to worse case, remember that nothing has been determined yet and get busy doing something to distract yourself. I always recommend doing something you love - what better way t spend time anyway?
Remember breathe and keep busy and wait for results - don't decide them yet.

Thank you for the words of encouragement. I have always been a worrier when it comes to health. Cancers and heart attacks run in my family.

I will try harder to breathe and keep my mind occupied with other things. It is hard though as physical symptoms are a constant reminder. I just hope that this is all related to being perimenopausal and my hormones being out of whack.

Well, had my US this morning (my legs were so shaky) and the technician said the fluid is gone. She didn't say whether everything else was in order, just that the fluid is gone and the doctor will send out a report in 2 days. So now it's a wait and see whether anything else showed up...

I too am feeling your stage of worry. I have been post menopausal for 18 months. Then bam, mid November the mother of all periods hit me. 8 days strong and double padding and tampons. Called my dr and now within 10 days have seen her, had two tvus and now am to see the gyno specialist at 10 in the morning. My dr did tell me my endometrial lining is almost 3 times thicker than it should be (im at 11.3 and should be between 3-5 mm). Concern there and that they found a cyst in one ovary while the other one decided to split and disappear before things got ugly. I’ve also been having almost consistent lower pelvic pain that isn’t ceasing.
Anyway, there’s so many on these forum, true “old” warriors, younger new “gladiators” those in between willing to guide us to our paths, and those of us still finding where we fit in and how our denim era, imaging findings and tests will determine our roles in the web of support! Stay strong!

So update - just in case it helps someone else down the line. I still haven't heard from the doctor, but I have online access to my results. The fluid in my uterus is not there anymore so YAY! Uterine thickness was 7 mm the first time I had TVUS (on day 18 of my cycle). It was 6 mm the second time (day 7 of my cycle). Conclusion is: normal appearing endometrium.

But this time I have two cysts on my right ovary and one cyst on my left ovary. On the first TVUS ovaries were "normal". The comment now states "cystic structures with low level internal echoes and peripheral vascularity...These are probably hemorrhagic cysts.". I have been feeling exceptionally bloated in the last few days, with painful breasts, etc, which are all symptoms of hemorrhagic cysts. I wonder whether I keep getting these cysts which then cause fluid in my uterus when they burst. I had an ovarian cyst surgically removed a few years ago so I am obviously prone to getting them, for whatever reason. Next step is to inquire with my gyno whether I may have pelvic inflammatory disease, adhesions or something similar.

In any case, I am somewhat relieved and no longer thinking it's cancer. Thanks for your support!
